UNESCO temple complex carved 1000 years ago.
The Chandela dynasty temples of Khajuraho are among the most extraordinary expressions of medieval Indian art — UNESCO-listed sandstone shrines adorned with thousands of sculptural panels depicting gods, warriors, celestial maidens, and famously uninhibited erotic figures. Only 25 of an estimated 85 original temples survive, but they represent a pinnacle of North Indian Nagara architecture. The annual Khajuraho Dance Festival brings classical dancers from across India to perform against this timeless sculptural backdrop.
